This year the Ty Cymorth Hospice Appeal has had the honour of being chosen as one of the organisations to receive such an award. The selection was made by the new High Sheriff, Professor Medwin Hughes, DL, FRSA, FLSW. The award will be presented on 19th October 2016 at the Halliwell Centre, University of Wales Trinity St David's Carmarthen campus.
It has been the custom for Her Majesty's High Sheriff of Dyfed to bestow an honorary distinction upon individuals and organisations who have made a significant contribution to charity and voluntary work within the community.

Quite an achievement, you'll agree. Well done all of you and big thanks from the Tŷ Cymorth Hospice Appeal for what you've done for us. We are delighted to announce that the Co-op has chosen Ty Cymorth Hospice Appeal as one of the charities it will support in its Co-op Members Community Scheme. Every time members choose Co-op branded products and services, and use their Co-op Membership Card, 1% of what they spend will go to their chosen cause.
The scheme will operate in: Carmarthen Co-op Food Store, King Street, Carmarthen and Oliver Evans Funeral Care, Carmarthen. A successful Coffee Morning was held at the Community Centre, Myddfai, on Saturday, June 18th. It was opened by Dr. Robin Lewis Jones (Royal Marsden Hospital), who was brought up at Llwyn Meredydd, Myddfai. The Coffee Morning brought in £231.00 for the Appeal Fund and raised awareness of Ty Cymorth and the services provided in the neighbourhood of Myddfai.
At the AGM held on June 16th in the Boardroom, Glangwili Hospital, the President, Dr Mark Turtle, presented the Trustees' Annual Report and outlined the purpose and the achievements of the Appeal over the last year. He paid tribute to the work of Nan Michael, Senior Nurse, Ty Cymorth Day Care, who has recently retired after many years in post. He also thanked all those involved with the Appeal for their commitment and hard work.
The Treasurer submitted the audited Financial Report. The Secretary's report outlined the fundraising activities held during the year. The AGM concluded with the election of officers. The present team were re-elected for a further year, namely, Dr Turtle, President and Chair of Trustees; Mrs Rhiannon Owen, Secretary of Trustees; Mr David Harris, Treasurer of Trustees and Fundraising Committee. Fundraising Committee: Mrs Ann Morgan, Chair; Mrs Elizabeth Griffin, Vice Chair; Mr Emlyn Schiavone,Secretary. Mr Andrew Thomas continues as Webmaster and Ann Morgan and Liz Griffin would continue to share the duties of Press Secretary. A successful Fish Supper fundraising event was held at the Ivy Bush Royal Hotel, Carmarthen on Thursday, April 7th 2016 which raised £1350 for the Appeal. A capacity audience enjoyed a delicious supper followed by entertainment from Cor Crescendo and a lively auction and raffle draw.
The Appeal is most grateful to these businesses and individuals who so generously donated raffle prizes: Mrs Ann G Lewis; Mr Vernon Edwards; Mrs June Thomas; Mr Brian Jones, Castell Howell; Pethau Bychain, Carmarthen; Mooch, Carmarthen and Vaughans Electrical, St Clears & Haverfordwest. We also thank our anonymous donor and Mrs Hilary Watkins for her gift of a painting which was successfully auctioned. Thanks also to Sian Mabutt, Senior Palliative Care Nurse, for her summary of the work done by the team at Ty Cymorth and in the community.

Losing a loved one is lonely and in the build up to the festive season and the traditional time of celebration and sharing, a grieving person may feel like there is no place to find comfort or relief from the darkness of grief.
Ty Cymorth Day Hospice, Carmarthen led by the Chaplaincy Department of Hywel Dda University Health Board, is holding their annual 'Their Light Still Shines' remembrance service on November 22 at 2.30pm, providing a place of light and hope for those who are mourning. The service will be held at the National Botanic Garden of Wales, Llanarthne, in the peaceful glass dome. Entry is free via the main entrance and is open to all ages and all faiths and none. Balloons are released at the end of the Celebration. Euryl Howells, Senior Chaplain for Hywel Dda University Health Board said: “We are delighted that Carmarthen Tenor, Radio Wales presenter and patron of Ty Cymorth, Wynne Evans will be joining the service along with local musicians. “12 central candles will also be lit, representing members of the family, work colleagues, those who have donated their organs to offer to others life. We will also remember those who have died in the armed forces and police and fire services across the years, with the final candle lit for those who await news of loved ones who remain missing. “In celebrating and remembering, you will be supporting the work of Ty Cymorth Hospice however you do not have to have used the services of the hospice, you can remember anyone who was special to you, who lit up your life, or was an inspiration. “I would like to thank the management of the National Botanic Garden of Wales for hosting this event; the Great Glass House offers a safe space for everyone of faith or no-faith to come together to share the pain of grief” A memorial book for you to record a personal message will be placed in the Carmarthen Journal office until November 20. A free bus has been arranged from Carmarthen Bus Station at 1.30pm on the day.
